    London Gazette January 1930
Funeral of one of the oldest Rotherhithians
The death has occured of one of Rotherhithe's oldest inhabitants, Frank Featherstone, of 6 Canute Street, who had attained his ninetieth year; and his funeral took place at Nunhead on Wednesday of last week.
Mr.Featherstone was a remarkable man, physically and mentally, for his age, and until three days before his death he was apparently in his normal health.
The deceased had been pensioned by the L.C.C. for about twenty years. For a long period he was employed at Southwark Park to tend the water fowl and other birds, including pigeons, pheasants and guinea fowl, which sported in large numbers in the lake or about its islands before boating was introduced there. Feeding time for these birds was one of the "sights" of the park. At that period, Mr Featherstone used to relate, some of the park keepers wore uniform resembling that of the modern police constable.
A native of Rotherhithe, Mr Featherstone took an intelligent interest in the affairs of the Borough, and was actively associated with the Labour Protection League - of which he was one of the oldest members - and the Liberal Association. He also helped in promoting the erection of the memorial near Crystal Bridge to the late father Thomas, of St. Katherine's, Rotherhithe.
Mr. Featherstone, whose wife predeceased him a good many years is survived by three sons, who wish, through us, to thank friends and neighbours for flowers and sympathetic messages on the occasion of their father's burial.

Dear Paul, Francis Featherstone was born c1841 at Rotherhithe and was married to Mary Ann ? who was born c1837. Their 4 issue - William b.c1867, George b.c1869 Alfred b.c1872 and Ernest, August 1880. All born Rotherhithe and Francis was a gardener at time George's marriage. This from the 1881 when George and sibs and parents lived at 7 Canute Street, Rotherhithe and at his marriage he was a bricklayer and on the 1901 he was a dock labourer. son George b. 1896 in Bermondsey but brother Ernest b. 1900 at Rotherhithe. I used to live at Bellingham and my father had an oil shop there and when I had leave I would help him. I remember in 1956 just on the Catford side of Lewisham Hospital was a shop which sold sheeting material - ground sheets etc. My father took me into the shop which was owned (possibly managed) by a man named Featherstone. They had a chat and my father failed to introduce me and after he told me that the man was his cousin. I thought he was kidding and it took me over 40 years to discover that connection through his mother's sister Alice.

Hello I am Jean Featherstone (77) and from what I can gather Patrick is my husband's great/great/grandfather. He was married to Mary Ann Whiteman (widow) nee Reid on the 22nd October 1843 who came from Rotherhithe born 1817. In the Isle of Man Census 1851 he was resident in Douglas Isle of Man and was Foreman in a Potato Works. I am told by a younger cousin of My Husband that Patrick's death was a mystery as his father always said that his great grandfather drowned of the Isle of Man. There is a web site you might be interested in if this is the person you are looking for http://www.lawsons.ca/dis births.html. There is also an article on a Potato factory in Douglas which I can forward if you wish. Hope this helps Please don't hesitate to ask further if this is what you are looking for.
