Keith Featherstone says that he was told that Walter was working on a farm? in Barnes and lost his job. He got lodgings in Wimbledon with someone who helped him get a job with the Post Office. It was that person who took him along to church at Queens Road Baptist Chapel.
I have found that Walter was living with his older brother John in Wycliffe Road, Wimbledon who was also a letter carrier when he got married in 1898.

deaths
Featherstone - on January 19, 1962 at 22 Rosebury Avenue, New Malden, Walter dearly beloved father of Gordon Eva Ron and Clarice entered into his eternal rest in his 86th year. Funeral took place at Queen's Road Baptist Church , on Thursday January 25th 1962.
Walter Featherstone: We have lost by death the senior member of our Church, Mr Walter Featherstone, formerly of Aylward Road, passing from us only six months after his wife, who was second on the roll. Our dear friend joined the Church in 1896 and served as Sunday School teacher, both at Norman Road and at Queen's Road. His attendance at worship was an example to everyone, and only the little interludes out in the country at Effingham made him absent from us. His loyalty was beyond question, and this virtue was matched by those of thrift and generosity. He carried a cheery word for everyone, and for his minister a good word of encouragement. There was that in his home which is a quality that comes from a quiet and certain faith, a piety of attitude and mind. Simplicity was there but the simplicity of the depth of faith and love to Christ.
the best testimony to his life and character is his family, so many of whom are in the churches of these parts as active workers. His eldest son is our deacon, C. G Featherstone, and all of his sons but one are members with us, the one other son being a member of a Baptist Church in Berkshire, This is the legacy of faith, and a man can leave no better last will and testament to us than this, Our friend suffered from deafness in his latter years, and in the autumn made the handsome gift of £150 for a new installation of a hearing-aid in the Church in memory of his wife.
We shall greatly miss him his quiet presence and generous support, He is now among those who sleep in Jesus whom God shall bring with Him when He comes to judge the living and the dead.
the funeral service was conducted by the Minister at Queen's Road on Thursday, 25th January 1962.
from the Roadmaker February 1962 (church magazine of Wimbledon Baptist Church)
Hearing Aids: the late Mr W. Featherstone some two years ago made a gift to the Church of £150 towards the installation of a new hearing and amplifying system for the Church, to be in memory of his wife, who pre-deceased him by a few months. An installation is about to be made of an induction-loop system which will enable those who use the aids to sit wherever they wish. We have every encouragement to believe that the system will be satisfactory. At the same time the Church is installing two column loud-speakers. We remember the choice life of the one whose memory is in the gift and the one who made the gift. We miss them from the fellowship on earth below. Their place in heaven above is theirs by faith alone.
