Maj.-Gen. Richard Steele Rupert Fetherstonhaugh was born on 20 September 1848.1 He was the son of Richard Steele Fetherstonhaugh and Rosetta Roche.1 He married Florence Dickson, daughter of George Collingwood Dickson, on 7 October 1886.1 He died on 6 May 1932 at age 83.1
He was commissioned in 1867, in the service of the 60th Rifles.1 He fought in the Zulu War in 1879.1 He fought in the Nile Expedition between 1884 and 1885, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was commanding officer of the 9th Brigade in 1899.1 He fought in the Boer War.1 He was commanding officer of the 6th Brigade, Aldershot between 1900 and 1901.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1901.1 He was commanding officer of the Mobile Columns of West Transvaal in 1901.1 He was commanding officer of the troops of East Transvaal between 1901 and 1902.1 He was commanding officer of the forces of Natal in 1902.1 He was Colonel of the King's Royal Rifle Corps between 1917 and 1925.1 He lived at Killua Castle, County Westmeath, Ireland.1 He lived at Gwydyr House, Ryde, Isle of Wight, England.1
