Linton W. "Stoney" Featherston, 71, of Fernandina Beach passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005, at Baptist Medical Center Nassau.
A native of Jacksonville, he attended Robert E. Lee High School and graduated from Camden Military Academy, Camden, S.C., in 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean conflict.
He went to work for the Seaboard Air Line Railroad in 1955, later working for the Seaboard Coast Line, and retired as trainmaster for CSX Railroad in 1997 after 42 years of service.
He attended the First Presbyterian Church of Fernandina Beach.
Surviving are: his wife, Terrie W. Featherston; five daughters, Cindy Lane, Shirley Raper, Bobbi Lynn Fischer and Mary Atkins, all of Fernandina Beach, and Mary Beth Stevenson of Kearney, Neb.; two brothers, John Featherston of Jacksonville and Bill Featherston of Rockingham, N.C.; two sisters, Helen Odum of Fayetteville, Ga., and Ruby "Oney" Woods of Brentwood, Tenn.; two aunts, Louise Flood of Yulee and Saphronia Cowart of Jacksonville; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and many cousins.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Burgess Chapel with the Rev. John H. Harland officiating. Mr. Featherston will be laid to rest at noon at Riverside Memorial Park in Jacksonville.
