      on Anna Louisa's christening record Ann as per the 1851 census is known as Sarah Ann. In the 1861 census her name is recorded as Mary Ann. The 1851 census gives her place of birth as Saxthorpe(near Aylsham), the 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891 censuses Sculthorpe (near Fakenham) and the 1901 census Heydon (which is next to Saxthorpe)

      The name Bartell came from the research by Joan Goodwins (cousin to the Rev Christopher Goodwins). Joan did her reasearch and contacted my Uncle John about 10 years ago. I had hoped to contact her when I first began researching but unfortunately John has since lost her address and telephone number. Susan Goodwins 9 February 2004

      The Anchor of Hope appears to have changed hands around the time of Sarah Ann's death - which would tie in if it had to be sold on her death. She was still alive on the 1901 census and living at the Anchor of Hope with their grand-son Arthur Frederick who was the licensee. The pub license records have him listed as Arthur Frank Goodwins - licensee 1892-1900 - and the next licensee isn't registered until 1904 - so Arthur must have moved on a sometime between 1901-1904. We have examples from the Birth, Marriage and Death indexes where people were registered at birth with the final 'e' missing and were married with the final 'e' in the surname. The 'haugh' is more difficult to prove, but people have suddenly adopted it for no apparent reason, although we have instances where people adopted the name, usually when money was involved.
