      can't find in birth registration index. Appears as Jasmine in 1871 census, I think she is Eugenie Featherstonhaugh who witnessed brother William's marriage in 1880, in 1881 census she is Julia Featherstone, marrying Joseph Dowsett in 1882 as Julia Featherstonhaugh. Then in 1891 census Eugenia Dowsett. I looked through the St Margaret's baptisms from 1854 - 1860 online and no sign of her.

      WP says Looking at the details we now have for Julia, the marriage would have put her birth in 1859, and her death as 1856. She cannot be born in 1859 unless she was a twin, and the 1856 date lines her up with Jasmine. So for the moment I am going with the letter J, and adding Julia to Jasmine! 1July 2011

      I had trouble finding Julia which intrigued me more, we found her under four different names, I think her real name was Eugenia as on a census there is Eugenia the mother and Eugenia the daughter, also Jasmine Featherstonborogh and two different spellings of Featherstonhaugh, I will let you have the correct spellings when I have my paperwork with me, Julia was born in 1858 give or take a year, next time I go to Chelmsford or Valance House I will look for that info Regards Gill Gillian@hsfm.co.uk 1 July 2011

We have examples from the Birth, Marriage and Death indexes where people were registered at birth with the final 'e' missing and were married with the final 'e' in the surname. The 'haugh' is more difficult to prove, but people have suddenly adopted it for no apparent reason, although we have instances where people adopted the name, usually when money was involved.
