Fetherstonhaugh, Timothy, Esq. of The College, Kirkoswald, co. Cumberland, b. 5 Dec. 1840; s. his father 5 April, 1856.
Lineage.-The first of the Fetherstonhaughs who came to Kirkoswald was
Henry Fetherstonhaugh, 2nd son of Albany Fetherstonhaugh, Esq. of Fetherstonhaugh, co. Northumberland, by Lucy, his wife, dau. of Edmond Dudley, Esq. of Yanworth, co. Westmorland. This Henry m. Dorothy, dau of Thomas Wybergh, Esq. of Clifton ; and d. in 1626, having had a dau., Dorothy, m. to John Stanley, Esq. of Dalegarth, and a son,
Sir Timothy Fetherstonhaugh, Knt. of Kirkoswald, a devoted adherent to the Royalist cause, who was beheaded by Cromwell's party in 1651. His 2nd son and heir,
Thomas Fetherstonhaugh, Esq. of Kirkoswald, was thirty-seven years of age at Dugdale's Visitation in 1665. His great-grandson,
Timothy Fetherstonhaugh, Esq. of Kirkoswald, d. s. p., and was s. by (the son of his sister Joyce, the wife of the Rev. Charles Smallwood, B.A.) his nephew,
Charles Smallwood, who, in compliance with the will of his maternal uncle, assumed, by royal license, 1 Sept. 1797, the additional surname and arms of Fetherstonhaugh. He m. 6 March, 1810, Elizabeth, dau. of Thomas Hartley, Esq. of Gillfoot, co. Cumberland, and left at his decease, 7 March, 1837,
Timothy, his heir, of Kirkoswald.
