      Bond from Thomas Leigh Fetherstone alias Leigh of Packwood, gent, to Thomas Ward of the borough of Warwick, merchant, in £80. Witnesses: John Commaing, Tho: Rawlins. Finding No DR12/55 Date 26 May 1722 Status open Level file

      Thomas Fetherston (d 1714) left the estate to his sister, who was married to Thomas Leigh of Aldridge, Staffordshire; it subsequently passed to their daughter, Catherine, who died a spinster in 1769. After Catherine's death, Packwood was inherited by her half-nephew, Thomas (b 1761), younger son of William Dilke of Maxstoke Castle, Warwickshire. Thomas Dilke died in 1814 leaving the estate to his brother Charles, who was described as living in 'the true style of an English gentleman' (West 1830). The house was modernised in the early C19, but the gardens remained largely untouched. Packwood remained in the Dilke family after Charles' death in 1831, but from 1851 it was let. In 1869 it was sold to George Arton who developed the gardens and created the parkland from surrounding agricultural land in the 1870s (OS). https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1001194

      Memorial Inscription in St Giles, Packwood Church
      In memory of Thomas Fetherston Leigh of this Parish Esq son of Samuel Leigh Gent descended from Sr Edward Leigh in the County of Stafford. He married Dorothy daughter of William Fetherston in this County Gent. She dying Young he married Mary daughter of John Lane in the County of Stafford Esq.
      Both amiable and virtuous women.
      He died Febr 22nd 1755 age 58 Leaving two daughters Catharina by the First and Mary by his second marriage.
      Four of his children rest with their parents.
      He was exemplary in all social duties as a neighbour master husband and parent
      In his conversation open and sincere no good man could suspect his integrity. Zealous in a good cause he loved his country and he lov'd his friend.
